Lizbeth Alvarez joined the COPE Health Solutions team in September 2018 as a Program Manager in the Health Scholar Program at California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. In this role, Ms. Alvarez oversees program operations and focuses on the professional growth and development of participants.

Prior to joining the team, Ms. Alvarez worked in the office of Senator Kamala D. Harris as the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Legislative Health Fellow. In this role, she advised the Senator on health, women’s rights, education, social welfare programs, LGBTQ rights and environmental justice. Ms. Alvarez chaired meetings with stakeholders to discuss their concerns regarding the Affordable Care Act, academic medicine and health care, and wrote memoranda advising the Senator on health, the social safety net, and education. drafted letters to constituents, stakeholders and agencies on behalf of the Senator regarding California and national health care issues. Ms. Alvarez also wrote legislation addressing environmental justice inequities among communities of color and initial strategy documents on how to address the opioid abuse epidemic.

Ms. Alvarez holds a Master’s in Public Health from The George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health and graduated with her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Arts in Health Care Policy from Mount Saint Mary’s University. She is excited to work with future health care leaders to build a workforce that better reflects the diverse communities they serve. Ms. Alvarez is passionate about being an advocate for underserved populations.
