Margarita Gardea, Manager, joined COPE Health Solutions in March 2015. She began her career in health care administration as an Administrative Fellow at Harris County Hospital District (dba Harris Health System) in Houston, Texas. Upon completion of her administrative fellowship, Ms. Gardea served as Manager of Health System Strategy Operations at Harris Health System. In this role, she assisted in the development of a robust anchor team for Regional Healthcare Partnership 3 (RHP3) of the Texas 1115 Medicaid Transformation Waiver and focused on managing a $2.3 billion allocation for the largest region in Texas. Ms. Gardea used her Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification and supported organizational improvement projects during her time at Harris Health System as well.

Since joining COPE Health Solutions, Ms. Gardea initially focused on the 1115 waiver in New York and led the provider performance based contracting and funds flow methodology initiatives for three upstate New York performing provider systems. Her work included account management, development of funds flow models and defining provider activities to be completed for payment in each defined network. Most recently, Ms. Gardea supported the Data Insights and Analytics Services (DIAS) team with daily operations and led project management efforts for the team.

Currently, Ms. Gardea is part of the COPE Health Scholars leadership team and is directly responsible for the recruitment strategy of all educational experiential courses. She also oversees International Scholar Courses, Intensive and Prep Courses, Tailored Practicum Courses and COPE Connect, the COPE Health Scholar alumni network. In this role, Ms. Gardea is also responsible for growing academic partnerships with national and international institutions and managing existing relationships.

Ms. Gardea was born and raised in El Paso, Texas and moved to San Antonio, Texas for college. She holds a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University and graduated Cum Laude from St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Business Administration. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and plans to pursue fellow status.
