Celeste Castro

Community Health Worker

Celeste Castro is a Community Health Worker at COPE Health Solutions. Within this role, she focuses on providing services with the intent of improving the health outcomes of ECM members by promoting culturally competent education and bridging the divide between them and health care services. As a Com-munity Health Worker, Ms. Castro aims to promote wellness and address health disparities with a focus on building strong trustworthy relationships with members and their families.

Prior to joining COPE Health Solutions, Ms. Castro worked as a certificated substitute at a Title 1 District. Here, she strengthened her communication skills, enhanced her cross-cultural understanding, and further observed the importance of community engagement. She also worked as a medical scribe in an urgent care clinic and as a clinical research assistant with the University of California, Berkeley. Within these roles, she strengthened her skills and knowledge of medical and health care systems, patient and participant engagement, and cultural competency.

Ms. Castro graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where she double majored and received a BS in Anthropology and a BA in Chicano Studies. While at school, Ms. Castro participated in various student-led organizations that aimed to address the health-related needs of various communi-ties in the greater LA area by providing education, services, resources, and overall support. She was also involved as a clinical research assistant where she developed her recruitment, interpersonal, data collec-tion, and problem-solving skills.
