
Julio Sagastume
Community Health Worker
Julio Sagastume is a current Community Health Worker whose passion in patient advocacy began as a COPE Health Scholar in the Glendale Adventist Hospital branch. Working closely with a passionate team of medical professionals inspired Mr. Sagastume to pursue a career in the healthcare field and take health-related courses at UCLA.
While at UCLA, Mr. Sagastume developed into a community advocate as a Labor Studies major. Working with unions and community centers in Los Angeles County sparked his de-sire to work closely with underserved communities. He has significant experience in com-munity organizing and working with Community Based Organizations across Southern California.
More recently, Mr. Sagastume worked closely with the California State Surgeon General in the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Aware initiative. He has experience assisting with community outreach projects, promoting health screening awareness, contributing to state-wide policy writing, and creating content for the Live Beyond Campaign as part of the ACEs Aware Initiative.
Mr. Sagastume enjoys learning about science. He had the opportunity to conduct immunology research as a research professional at Stanford University, where he worked on im-proving vaccine-immune responses. In his free time, Mr. Sagastume can be found playing soccer with friends and trying new coffee shops.
